We often set the dimmer to a low light level as use it as a night light during the night. Also, we use it in the same manner when we are away at night. It helps to come into a dimmly lit home. It's incredibly simple to use, the slider moves smoothly and has a nice latching feel when you turn it all the way down. The indicator LED makes it easy to tell whether the device is on or off. A great benefit of this design is how the power pass-through works. The Credenza itself plugs into the wall, and a recepticle on the back of the plug accepts the lamp's plug. This way, you can take the Credenza's reasonably long cord and place the controller in a location that's actually useful to you, sparing you having to reach up under the lampshade or fumble along the cord to toggle the lamp's power. I just keep mine on the table next to the lamp; it's intuitive and convenient. The dimming functionality allows me to use brighter bulbs in my lamp and dim them down when desired, making my lamp more versatile for different applications. If I'm working, I can light up the whole room like day, but if I'm watching a movie late at night, I can dim it down to a mild, warm glow. It adds a ton to my lamp and I can't imagine living without it. The LED is great too; it's easy to spot this control in the dark! I highly recommend this product to anybody who wants to get the most out of their standalone lamps. Just plug a lamp into the Credenza and the lamp dims right away! When you move, pack up the dimmer with your lamp to use at the next location (no installing or uninstalling necessary). Lava Lamp Saver! By Mike (PA) on 7/23/2009 I use the Cradenza to control the light on my Lava Lamp. Without the dimmer, the Lava Lamp tends to heat up to the point where all of the "lava" floats to the top of the lamp. I found that by using this dimmer I am able to run the lamp continuously without over heating, plus it gives the lamp a much nicer, mellow glow, instead of making it a glaring beacon. Perfect for Night Stand Lights By Douglas (Bedroom) on 7/21/2009 I really found this product to be convenient for locations where you don't want to fumble with (and possibly knock over) a lamp in the middle of the night. The red LED can be placed on a night stand where it can be easily located in a dark room and turned on to a level that doesn't hurt the eyes. The dimmer feature is also convenient for reading before bed.
